# HTTP methods

> Which HTTP methods the StrideHQ API uses, and what each one does.

The StrideHQ API uses standard HTTP methods to work with endpoints. This table lists the methods it uses, with an example endpoint for each.

| HTTP method | What it does | Example |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `GET` | Gets a resource, or a list of them, without changing anything. | `GET /creators` lists your creators |
| `POST` | Creates a resource, or takes an action on one. | `POST /invoices` submits an invoice. `POST /payment_runs/{id}/withdraw` withdraws a payment run. |
| `PATCH` | Changes some of a resource's fields. Fields you don't send stay as they are. | `PATCH /creators/{id}` updates a creator's details |
| `DELETE` | Removes a resource. Only webhook endpoints can be deleted. | `DELETE /webhook_endpoints/{id}` deletes a webhook endpoint |

The API doesn't use `PUT`. To change a resource, use `PATCH` with only the fields you want to change.

Nothing else can be deleted through the API, so a person stays in control of your records in StrideHQ.
